Hey gang.

Guess I should finally bump that old journal off, it being the beginning of the second semester now, heh. Early first semester was rough, mostly because we had to create another CG character, and what seems to take me the most time and patience is blendshapes (expressions) and "weighting" the geometry (skin) to the joints. It all leveled out near the end, wasn't as hectic thankfully.

The reason I don't really post my CG stuff is because I feel it's not refined enough, and very often it's hard for non-CG savy peeps to gauge what's work in progress and what's finalized. I'll eventually post my shit, I just gotta' refine some things, animation-wise.

Oh, and happy new yeeeears. It seems to have been a rough year for everyone, and I'm kinda' glad it's over. I guess my resolution is to be less bottled up and more open about venting. I tend to put others' needs and emotions far before mine, and avoid conflict like the plague, which unfortunately leaves me stressed and lonely. Next semester will be the roughest for me, since we're going into a class called preproduction, and you've got to pitch ideas and animatics for your thesis, multiple ones, and be critiqued by the CA faculty. Wish me luck. @_@

Glad to say I've met some awesome people here at Ringling, god I love college, I'm surrounded by other artists and it's just GRAND. XD Comparing junior year to freshmen year, holy crap...freshmen year wasn't this intense. You had a LOT of spare time since all you did were core classes which involved drawing boxes. Right now in junior year, you're really there and you really know the programs by now. Technical errors are minimal (MOST of the time) when they were absolutely rampant and soul-shattering during sophomore year. If I may talk to the Ringling sophomores here for a moment: if you're doubting yourself, know that by junior year everyone sort of levels out. You'll know the program better.

I gotta' say, my favorite class this year is Drawing for Animators. It's been a huge confidence boost for me, and I love the crap out of my teacher. The Gold Teeth picture I did got me a Best of Ringling nomination, as well as my third daily deviation, which I am so humbled by. I never, ever, ever thought I'd get a daily deviation, much less 3!

For christmas I got a GPS (sah-WEET), TF toys, and finally a flash drive that holds 16 gigs. No longer will I have to wait for giant psd images or maya files to transfer back and forth over the school server to my condo!

I've actually seemed to bond with a few teachers, yay. I landed some great teachers last semester. Unfortunately I got last pick for this semester, so I have the most shittiest schedule ever.

Omg, I have to get my portfolio ready for recruiters. Omg, I have to make a resume and coversheet and business cards and finish my damn website. Omg I have to come up with 5 solid thesis ideas before the first day of school. Omg I have to refine animation that I haven't refined. *spazz*

Go see Bolt, it's a very sweet, well-rounded story and I'm glad it's doing fairly well at the box office. Get the Wall-E dvd and check out the deleted scenes!
